How does medical cannabis work to make me feel better?

Great question!

Medical cannabis works by using special compounds in the cannabis plant to help with certain health problems. The two main compounds are THC and CBD. THC is like the part that can make you feel "high," but it can also help with pain and nausea. CBD doesn't make you feel high, but it can help with things like anxiety and seizures. When you take medical cannabis, these compounds interact with your body's natural systems to make you feel better. Please read our our Medical Cannabis 101 page for more information.

Is medical cannabis covered by my insurance?

Great question!

In Canada, health insurance usually doesn't pay for medical cannabis. This means most people have to pay for it themselves. There are a few private insurance plans that might cover it for certain illnesses, but not many.

If you're sick and your doctor thinks medical cannabis might help, you can talk to your insurance company. They'll tell you if they can help you pay for it.

Every province in Canada has different rules about what they'll pay for. So, you might want to check with your province's health department too.

Remember, even if insurance helps pay for medical cannabis, there might be rules you have to follow. Your doctor will guide you on how to use it and if it's right for you.

Is medical cannabis safe for me?

Great question!

Cannabis is generally a safe medicine. However, there are some patients where cannabis is strictly contraindicated. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding and people with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder who are actively psychotic should not take cannabis. Please read our our Medical Cannabis 101 page for more information.

Please check with your primary health care provider and pharmacist before taking cannabis to ensure that cannabis is not contraindicated with your particular heath condition and medications.
